The American Civil War 1861-1865 could be interpreted as an attempt at this. The split did not work out, and if it had, there would have been subsequent wars as each faction attempted to impose its philosophy upon new states.
Better to learn to live together in a system where the pendulum of government does not swing too far either way. Unfortunately, the misguided in America feel the need to dismantle the checks and balances that are essential to this system.
