My wife and I dealt with the inexorable march of dementia for over 10 years with my father, her father, and then my mother. Perhaps the worst was seeing vibrant and loving people reduced to shadows of what they once were, and then changed into something unrecognizable.

I wish no one would have to go through this, either as the sufferer or the loved one who has to watch it happen.
